Early Detection of Transmission Failure
If a car is having issues running from Point A to Point B, many people don’t even consider checking the transmission. Those same people, often times, don’t realize that transmission service – next to engine service – can hit the pockets the hardest. As we move toward Christmas (and the extra holiday bills), that’s the last thing anyone wants to worry about.
Your car’s transmission should be treated with just as much care as the engine. In checking the transmission for any flaws, or for simple routine transmission fluid checks, make sure the engine is running, and your car is in neutral with the emergency brake on. Wipe the dipstick clean and then reinsert it to receive an accurate reading.
We understand that sometimes, a transmission is going to have its hiccups. If you notice any issues as you start up, drive or park your car, seek assistance immediately – preferably from one of our automobile professionals in Grapevine TX – as it may just be the beginning of the end for a failing transmission.
Similar to a person showing signs that he or she is sick, a car can do the same thing when it comes to its transmission. However, we must look for the symptoms. Be on the lookout for these potential problems:
- Trouble shifting into first gear
- A leak with a reddish color
- Sputtering and stuttering from one gear to another
- A whiny, howling noise appearing to come from under the floorboards
- Overheating
